Do not sacrifice heritage, need to make Khadi chic, modern: Gadkari
However, the Union minister for Micro-, Small and Medium Enterpries (MSMEs) Nitin Gadkari said that India will have to make khadi fashionable and new without losing culture, to make khadi a global label.
In order to facilitate the production of fashionable designs according to market demand, the Khadi Village Industries Corporation (KVIC) under the Ministry of Micro, Small or Medium Enterprises (MMSC) proposes developing regional design and product development centers in the region.
"Today we need to make the models more chic and contemporary, without sacrificing with tradition, to increase the production and sale of khadi and to make it a global brand.
In a release, the Ministry of MSME said, the proposed design houses will encourage the growth of Khadi institutions according to market demand.
A design house's main role is to recognise the latest design patterns and to implement them according to customer demands.
